July 2005
Faith experiences
To commemorate the 5th anniversary of the chapel in 2000, adorers
were invited to write about their thoughts and experiences arising from their
holy hour commitments. These writings were then published for all to read.
This collection of experiences was a witness to the power of prayer, to the joy
in the risen Lord, the Bread of Life. For some, even as the winter of life lay
waste their garden of dreams, Jesus beckoned and they followed. “It was not you
who chose me, it was I who chose you (Jn 15:16).
As we approach our 10th anniversary on October 1, 2005, we would
ask as many adorers as possible to record their faith experiences. A binder
will be placed in the chapel for this purpose towards the end of July. We plan
to publish your meditations in time for the anniversary.
Adorers’ breakfast
The annual adorers’ breakfast took place on Saturday, June 4, and
as usual the Knights of Columbus provided a delicious culinary feast for the
some 40 adorers who attended. The breakfast is always a wonderful opportunity
for people to share their time, their company, their conversation, their smiles,
their warmth and their faith with one another. Also, as part of the focus on
the Eucharist as the source and summit of our faith in this Year of the
Eucharist, there was a video presentation entitled “The Father’s Gift” which
demonstrates the power that the Mass and Jesus present in the Blessed Sacrament
can have in our lives and subsequently in our relationship with our neighbour.
The proceeds of the breakfast ($145.00) were generously donated by the Knights
to a very worthy cause: breast cancer research.
Candles
Since the beginning of May, we
have been using beeswax candles in the chapel (previously the candles were
paraffin-based). This measure has been taken to improve the quality of air in
the chapel. Can anyone who is asthmatic/with breathing problems let us know if
the new candles have made a difference for you. For your feedback, please call
Joanna at 514-694-8291.
Prayers
From time to time prayer requests are deposited next to the signing-in book. In
future we hope to include these prayer requests in this bulletin. Please make a
point of writing them clearly, particularly names, so that the bulletin entries
are correct.
